The Arts theatre is your venue for a splendid night out courtesy of playwright Lee Tannen, actress Sandra Dickinson and actor Matthew Scott. It's I Loved Lucy and it has already wowed audiences at the Jermyn Street theatre. Now it's transferring to the West End for a strictly limited rum, a highly personal and affectionate portrait of the iconic comedy entertainer whose public face is known inside out. But what about the private self behind the legend that was Lucille Ball? That's what you'll discover at The Arts theatre.
What was Lucille Ball really like? How did she spend the final decade of her amazing life, the ten years she spent determinedly out of the spotlight? This play is based on Tannen's best-selling memoir, and it's a beautifully funny and bitter-sweet affair revealing the woman behind the reputation in all her hilarious and touching glory. It's an incredibly rich and genuinely personal portrait of the real Lucy, and audiences are lapping it up. The pair's close and enduring friendship throughout the last 10 years of Lucy’s life, much of which was sent gambling or at her Beverly Hills and Palm Springs homes, is a pleasure to behold on stage, a fitting memorial for a truly great lady. Hugely enjoyable.
