Alice is gay... or is she? When her girlfriend Fiona confesses she's always identified with men and wants to take up a transgender life as Adrian, Alice is no longer sure what she is – is she in fact straight? Add Fiona's sweet natured brother John and the free spirited spliff-smoking Dutch girl Lelani to the mix and you have a play that's both hilariously funny and intelligent, touching and wise. The Evening Standard calls it “Smartly observed and very funny… warm and emotionally intelligent” and Time Out says that “Brittain’s play is another reminder - warm, witty and wise - of the stupidity of thinking that there are only two genders.”
Nervy, neurotic Alice is played to perfection by Alice McCarthy. Cynical Fiona is portrayed beautifully by Anna Martine. The rebellious weed smoking Dutch girl Lelani is perfectly portrayed by Jessica Clark and John, Fiona's brother, is brought to brilliant life by Ed Eales-White. It's a potent combination, delivering a piece of theatre that's been thrilling audiences for some time and has won an Olivier award. It has already enjoyed a sell-out run at the London's Theatre503 in 2015, and another at the Trafalgar Studios during 2016. Now it’s coming back to theatreland for a limited season, this time at the Arts Theatre from Wednesday 21 June to Saturday 15 July 2017. See you there!
